JCT600 staff to cycle nearly 3,500 miles for charity

A team of 14 staff from JCT600 is undertaking a mammoth charity challenge – to cycle past JCT600’s 14 Volkswagen dealerships across Yorkshire, the Humber, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, covering 247 miles in just two days.

Comprising staff from the JCT600 Volkswagen dealerships in York, Hull and Rotherham, as well as a director of the Bradford-based car retailer, the challenge is being undertaken with the aim of raising £1,000 for York & District Against Motor Neurone Disease (YAMND) in support of a colleague who has recently been diagnosed with this debilitating condition and also to raise funds for JCT600’s chosen charity for 2013, the British Heart Foundation.

The team includes James Warne, Paul Harnett, Kevin Sanderson, Michelle Smith, Nigel Hope, James Radcliffe, Tony Spray, Rob Pape and Laura O’Donnell of JCT600 Volkswagen York.

Setting off from York on 22 August, the intrepid team plans to cover 113 miles the first day, cycling to Hull and then to Newark. The following day, they will complete another 95 miles, riding from Chesterfield to Sheffield and on to Rotherham, Wakefield and Bradford before eventually returning to the Clifton Moor dealership the following day.

“JCT600 has given us great support, providing support staff and vehicles as well as letting the team take time off work to undertake the challenge,” comments James Warne, head of business for JCT600 Volkswagen York. “Every year JCT600 undertakes a number of charity fundraising events with a company-wide walk up the Three Yorkshire Peaks in May, but this is the first time that we’ve taken to our bikes. Cycling past all of our Volkswagen dealerships in Bradford, Wakefield, York, Sheffield, Rotherham, Hull, Chesterfield and Newark will be quite a feat.”

He continues: “The team here at York really wanted to do something to show our support for a colleague who was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and this is one of a number of activities we will are organising over the next month or so to raise funds for both YAMND and the British Heart Foundation.”

YAMND offers emotional and practical support for people with motor neurone disease and their families living within a 20 mile radius of York District Hospital. The Charity also supports research into developing treatments and, hopefully one day, a cure.
