left to right: Hazel Allison, Sheila Sykes, Doreen Foster on a visit to SITRAN

Many of you will already have heard the devastating news of the tragic death of SHEILA SYKES.
Sheila was one of the founder members of YAMND back in 1989 when she herself lost a parent to MND. Sheila served as a major fund raiser for the charity from its inception, raising an enormous amount of money. She took part in golfing days ( another of her passions ), baked cakes, rattled tins, packed bags in supermarkets, served tea and sandwiches at St Crux all with a sense of fun and energy others found difficult to match. She retired as fund raiser in 2009 but remained a member of YAMND and took an active interest in the charity. She still assisted at events often drumming up tremendous support from her huge circle of friends. Only recently she, Tony, and all her ” girls ” were a huge help to Hazel at the M/S bag packing event in November.

Without people like Sheila YAMND would not exist today offering the support which is so gratefully received by those suffering from MND in and around York.

Sheila was a lovely person to be around and will be greatly missed by many.

I am sure everyone who has ever been involved with YAMND is devastated by this tragedy and our thoughts are with her family.
